Labcraft Illuminates the UK’s Tallest Trailer for Howard Tenens

Howard Tenens, the leading sustainable logistics company in the UK, has been working with Labcraft to provide an environmentally friendly lighting solution for one of their newest and tallest trailers in the UK. The new trailer has been specifically designed for Howard Tenens’ contract with Atlet, part of Nissan Group, to transport the majority of forklifts without the need to open the retractable roof. The new design will enable the machinery to be delivered in pristine condition without being subjected to the British weather.

Paul Gowland, Group Fleet Manager at Howard Tenens, has been working in partnership with Labcraft’s Matt Stubbs to design the best lighting system possible. Their key focus was to ensure that the working area of the trailer was bright and safe enough for loading/unloading and equally that the internal positioning of the forklift was visible.

An LED lighting scheme was chosen which could deliver long life and low power properties combined with well designed electronics and high quality components. A scheme such as this will provide a ‘fit and forget’ lighting solution as there will be no need to replace the lighting throughout the life of the trailer – this will reduce vehicle downtime and ultimately cost.

Low power draw is also very important for these working vehicles; other equipment such as tail lifts, are also used for loading and unloading and the installation of a Labcraft energy efficient lighting system with minimise battery drain.

Each of the new trailers will have 6 x Labcraft LED Scenelites mounted on the side walls and 1 x Superlux on the front wall to provide a high lux lighting level. These features have been designed to minimise health and safety risks associated with lighting maintenance in the workplace. The unique design of the Labcraft LED Scenelite produces over 1,000 lumens of superior illumination. All six LEDs are first angled towards the ground and then the outer two are tilted slightly to each side offering a broader distribution of light compared to standard scene lights. The Superlux presents an amazing 350 lumens of clean white light and compliments the light output of the Scenelite, providing a bright and safe working environment. The waterproof features to IP67, standard of both the LED Scenelite and Superlux, mean these vehicles can be used in wet conditions with the roof retracted and are conducive to pressure washing for cleaning purposes.

Ben Morris, MD-Operations said, “Sustainability and excellent service levels are at the core of Howard Tenens’ business strategy. Efforts such as these, in reducing carbon footprint and improving service, are a great fit with our ethos. We are delighted with the efforts both Paul and Matt have delivered, as ultimately, these benefit our customer, Atlet Ltd.”

Matt Stubbs commented, “We were thrilled at the opportunity to work on this special project with Howard Tenens and are delighted at how much of a success it has been. The Labcraft products provide excellent light distribution while at the same time lasting well over 10 times longer than standard halogen lamps. Our lights are also designed and manufactured in the UK, ensuring we always maintain the highest level of quality and reliability for our customers. We look forward to continuing our working relationship with Howard Tenens and introducing Labcraft lighting into other areas of the vehicle fleet”.
